Eastern Creek Raceway is located in Sydney's west and is a
circuit I know very well as I used to go for bike trackdays with
mates every month for quite a few years. I started going when I
first got my licence on a 250cc, and the last bike I used on the
track some years later was a 1997 Suzuki GSXR750 on which I
could hit 250km/hr down the straight. This was the bike in
between - a Honda CBR600.
The circuit flows very well as it was
designed for the 500CC GP bikes which it hosted from 1991-97.
The day was run by
Circuit
Club with instructors available from
Driving Solutions and together they made the day run very
smoothly and kept the sessions turning over quickly. I'll
definitely be back for their next Eastern Creek day in August.
I've actually put my stock intake cams back
in, leaving the 265 degree exhaust cams installed as I needed
the torque from 3000rpm and up, whereas the 265 degree intake
cams are really only better above 5000rpm. I'll post comparison
dyno charts soon.
I didn't get many photos but I did have
to take one of the number I was given... hehe
There are a pile of photos from
the day by the track photographer right
here.
I did get some in car footage however,
so turn up your speakers and enjoy. At the 200m board where I
was braking on the straight I was hitting 7000rpm in 4th which
is 200km/h.
This one was from earlier in the day
when the track was still damp (it was raining in the first
session). My mate Garth is driving the Corolla in front which
has a 20-valve 4AGE, which combined with the lightweight car
makes it pretty quick around a circuit.
Even though it rained in the morning we
did get a couple of dry sessions in so we had to adapt our
driving style to the conditions. Fun day all round which is what
it's all about.
